Mechanical and UV protection

Mechanical and anti-UV protection of pipes

Plastic adhesive strips

Anti-corrosion protection being in principle guaranteed by the anti-corrosion strip, the mechanical protection is used to protect it in the event of impact (falling rocks, blows from a shovel, etc.) and against perforations which may be caused in particular by pebbles. They also serve as a clean finish. Mechanical protection tapes are usually polymer tapes, so they must be applied under tension to achieve a retraction effect. The width of the band must be adapted to the diameter of the pipe to avoid kinks.

Hardening strips

The mechanical protection can be significantly increased by the application of additional polyurethane-based protection systems.

ALLTER Glass ShieldTM in particular is a PU in strip form, activated by humidity. It is applied in addition to strip systems to reinforce mechanical protection (up to more than 100 J) and anti-UV protection.

Anti-rock felts

In very rocky regions (presence of flint in particular), and for pipes with large diameters (therefore heavy), the risk of drilling can be eliminated by using an anti-rock felt. Felt is also used when the risk of shock is high. Felt can be applied as “cigarette paper” (see photo); the closure is made by heat sealing.

KEBULEN anti-UV band

Kebulen UV tape is a self-adhesive butyl rubber based tape with a laminated aluminum-PET composite film, very tear resistant, which offers high mechanical stability.

Kebulen UV Tape is suitable for above ground pipeline wraps, pipe bridges as well as ground to air transitions.
