Mechanical and anti-UV protection of pipes

Plastic adhesive strips

Since anti-corrosion protection is in principle guaranteed by the anti-corrosion strip, mechanical protection is used to protect it in the event of an impact (falling rocks, shovel blows, etc.) and against perforations that can be caused in particular by pebbles. They also serve as a clean finish. Mechanical protection strips are usually polymer strips, so they must be applied under tension to obtain a retraction effect. The width of the strip must be adapted to the diameter of the pipe to avoid folds.

Hardening strips

Mechanical protection can be significantly increased by the application of additional polyurethane-based protection systems.

ALLTER Glass ShieldTM in particular is a moisture-activated PU in the form of a strip. It is applied in addition to strip systems to reinforce mechanical protection (up to more than 100 J) and UV protection.

Anti-rock felts

In very rocky regions (especially flint), and for large diameter pipes (therefore heavy), the risk of drilling can be eliminated by using an anti-rock felt. Felt is also used when the risk of shock is high. Felt can be applied as “cigarette paper” (see photo); the closure is done by heat welding.

KEBULEN anti-UV band

Kebulen UV tape is a self-adhesive butyl rubber based tape with a laminated, highly tear-resistant aluminium-PET composite film, which offers high mechanical stability.

Kebulen UV tape is suitable for coating pipelines on the surface, for pipe bridges as well as for ground-air transitions.
